A massive lake so cold it is almost unnatural, with massive chunks of ice drifting in the water. Sea serpents are deep in the lake and may randomly attack those who venture out too far. On some nights a wrecked ship dramatically emerges from the water...and then promptly sinks without further ceremony. It's almost comical, if you're used to such sights.

At least if she froze to death, Xun would know that her corpse would be in a dignified position. None of that huddled over for warmth stuff.
Honestly, Xun did not see what the big deal was. Sure it was freezing, it was remote, and there was that weird ghost ship that couldn't make up its mind about which part of the lake to haunt, but really. It was quite pleasant otherwise. She just did not understand how people, in the throes of misery, simply could not stop for a moment and appreciate the scenery.
The young woman's mitten clad hand moved her heavy scarf away from her mouth, in order to take one long sip from her thermos (filled with steaming tea). She had lost her way long ago, after retrieving some ancient book from a hidden cave, and now the sun was beginning to set. If she didn't keep warm, she would surely be dead within hours.
Xun li smiled contently to herself, and let out a satisfied sigh.
"That was good tea."

He knew that when they found his frozen body, they would know how much agony he had been in when he died. At the very least, he wanted his fingers to freeze in a particular way that allowed him to flip off the person who found him.
WHY THE HELL DID THE WORLD NEED SOMEWHERE THIS COLD? It served no purpose! Penguins were only cute while they were babies. Seals too. After that grace period they were ugly.
And that friggin boat. What was up with that? That thing had TRICKED him! TRICKED HIM! Alfonso had thought it was there to save him but NOOOO. Damn thing sank.
By now though his wanderings had reduced him to a huddled bundle of shivering flesh. His teeth rattled like beans in a rainstick, which was kind of ironic, considering.
"That was good tea."
Oh what the hell.
...were you supposed to hallucinate before you froze to death? He couldn't even see anything outside of the thin pile of snow draped over his huddled form.
"Good...to the last...drop?"

Xun li paused, thermos halfway to her lips, when she heard something stirring behind her. By the sound of it, it was human, a tired, cold human, possibly male-
"Good...to the last...drop?"
Xun shifted in her sitting position, the snow that was slowly building on her falling away, and risked a peep over her shoulder. Yep. Definitely male.
Gingerly, Xun reached out to wipe some of the snow away from the scruffy man's face. He seemed to be in the same situation as she, albeit a little worse for wear. The young woman placed her thermos in the snow, and leaned over on her hands and knees in order to get a better look.
"Beggers can't be choosers."

The man's face certainly was scruffy, him being of the manly persuasion after all. He liked to wear his testosterone on the outside, so that others would know. His blurry eyes searched the air in front of him, flicking in her general direction before he spoke again.
"H-have you...come for me?" His bottom lip quivered, "Is it...time for me to go now?"
Alfonso raised a hand, a clump of snow falling off the back and onto his face, leaving only his mouth visible, making him look like a snowman with a brown curly wig on and a beard.
". . ."
"Please...bury me...NEAR THE OCEAN!" Looked like this beggar was trying to choose.

Xun blinked, then smiled in amusement. She liked it when people kept their sense of humor, even with death's grip tightened around them. "No, I'm afraid I haven't. I'm lost, too." She tried brushing more snow off of him.
"And I'm afraid I don't have the energy to waste carrying you," she began to tug on his coat, trying to bring him to a sitting position. "But, I can dump your body into the lake, and hopefully you'll be fed into the ocean. . . in some shape or form."
With one final tug, she pulled his heavy body into her, almost crushing herself underneath his weight. "Maybe you should try to summon your last vestiges of strength, and we can find some way out of here, together?"

Ah, to be roughly handled by an able-bodied woman before dying! He wouldn't have wanted to go any other way. . .
In an almost melodramatic way, Alfonso sighed, managing to hold himself up although he still required assistance. He was made for the blazing southern climates, the sudden shock of being thrown into an artic wasteland taking a toll on his delicate system ;-;
Resolving that he didn't want to be dumped right before death he got out a rough, "I might have some strength left. . .enough. . .for us to make it!"

Poor Xun was under the impression that his dramatic antics were merely joking attempts as keeping his spirit up. That's how people handled crisis situations, right?
"That's the spirit!" Xun chirped, giving the man a firm slap on the back. "We'll be out of the woods. . . er, tundra-in no time!"
With that, Xun shrugged her backpack off of her shoulders and began to dig through its contents. "I know I still have some. . . Only used one in Beijing. . . Ah!" Xun withdrew a small bottle from within her bag's depths, and held it out triumphantly.
"Pinch your nose and open your mouth. I'm going to do something very useful!"
Very useful INDEED.

No. It wasn't cocaine, or methamphetamine. . . But it might as well have been. Pure ginseng extract, plus a bunch of other herbs that were hard to pronounce. . . Come to think of it, there actually might BE trace amounts of meth in this. The Chinese gymnasts were using it, and they seemed pretty on the ball. . . Oh well, she'd popped the top.
"This might taste like burning. . ." Abd with that, she poured the contents of the bottle down his throat, then chased it with a handful of snow. The stuff tasted like fiery piss, but it would keep him going for days.
Xun scooted well back, in case he overdosed and exploded.

It was as if the unbridled ecstasy of the Lawrd himself had invaded Alfonso, flooding his veins like the finest product of the most honest dealer in all of Creation, entirely bereft of any cheap cut in baby aspirin.
At first the scruffy man could only stare off into the distance as if he were gazing into the soft welcoming light of the afterlife and all of his relatives stood there beckoning for him to come. But alas, it was not meant to be. Part of Alfonso knew that it was not yet his time to go. Not yet his time to join the ranks of those gone past.
It was then that he was ripped from paradise and back to reality like a strip of waxed cloth stuck to the back of a fat, hairy man.
What was unleashed was the loudest, most inhuman, high-pitched shriek of unbridled will-to-live fury that had ever been unleashed on humanity and never will be again.
The aftermath left Alfonso standing in the snow in a power-up position; crouched with hands at his sides, eyes wide and wild.
HE WAS ALIVE!

Hmmmm, perhaps she shouldn't have given him so much. Oh well! =D
Xun clapped her mittened hands together and stood with a cheery smile plastered across her face. "Yaaay! He's all better!" One eye peeped opened, followed by the other, so that she could better examine her new 'friend.'
He seemed to be sturdy enough, and with all that mania seeping through him, they should have no problem making it to the nearest town (however 'near' might be).
"Well, since we're going to be struggling for life together, we might as well become acquainted first. I'm Xun," she declared simply, not seeming to notice the fact the Alfonso was probably going bat shit insane.

Whatever she had given him had definately brought him back from the brink of whatever cliff he had been clinging too (probably DEATH). He was feeling so well in fact that he was almost able to forget about the whole struggling for life thing. His drug-induced mania was shoved to the back burner for introduction time =D!
"Oh, right!" the curly-haired man muttered as he straightened his posture. He gave his unruly hair a quick rake-through with his fingers as a large smile moved into place. "My name is Alfonso. A pleasure to meet you, Xun." The smile he gave her was one that you could imagine him giving to a scantily-clad woman on the beach but that along with his dark skin and rolling accent only made him seem even that more out of place. He didn't seem to mind though and allowed his squinting eyes to scan briefly over the horizon.
