A mysterious monument of stones arranged in a circle, its origin and purpose lost to time. Magic and psychic powers are stronger in the immediately surrounding area, though the reason for this is unknown and investigation into this would likely attract unwelcome attention.

Mary stood outside the circle of stones. Her eyes squinted up at the strange arrangements, her usual calm face hiding what she might have been thinking. She had seen photos of it in books and magazines, but for some reason, up close...it really didn't look anything like it.
First of all, it looks a little more primative and definately more desolate. Second of all...it gave off a weird feeling. The thing that inhabited the air above her almost seemed excited once they had come face-to-face with the ancient formation.
She stared up at it for a few more seconds before looking away quickly, scoffing under her breath.

A breath of wind, artificial or natural, shifted the air behind her. Whether or not she had bothered checking behind her before she arrived, upon turning around she might notice two things, that
a) He had suddenly appeared (which was impossible), or b) He had been there all the time and some wind happened to blow.
It did get a lot colder in the area though. The same wind coursed through the grass, coating their tips with a thin, weak layer of frost.

The girl turned around slowly, one brow raising unconciously. The cold wind was refreshing in its own way...for a time. But it was obvious it wasn't natural when frost formed on the grass.
She spoke a greeting, the word coming out more of a question than anything else. "Hello?"

Xiao stared at her silently, rigid as a statue, for a brief moment before closing his eyes in nonchalance and moving past her to examine the ancient sculpture, placing his hand on the surface and looking up at it.
Almost as if he was here first, and she was just a rude busybody.

This time her eyebrow raised on purpose.
Well fine, if he wanted to be that way...then he could be that way.
The sound of large wings rustled above her again, that same invisible presence perhaps making his disapproval of the other known.
She didn't really say anything, but her stare was hard enough to be felt on his back.

Xiao studiously ignored it, tracing his hands along the rock with some interest. He thought he could discern some patterns along it .. hints of a long lost language .. Where his hands traced, he left behind a trail of frost, some sort of geometric pattern slowly appearing along the pillar.
Of course, he could have just been thinking and letting his hands idle and wander across the granite .. or whatever sort of stone it was composed of.
Either way, he gave no appearance of even having noticed her. Such insignificant power was below him. Also, he had determined that her power was of no interest to his mission, so their meeting could be deemed as .. coincidence.

She briefly glanced at the frosty patterns appearing along the rock.
"So are you alright now?"
Talk about rubbing salt in a wound. The extremely forward way she asked it was almost rude. Could there really have been any real concern for his health behind her words?
"You were pretty banged up."
Was she gloating now? Or merely trying to infuriate them? Perhaps she just lacked social decorum. For her to have beaten him into the ground on their previous meeting, it was pretty rude of him to think of her powers as insignificant...
Although she wasn't complaining.

"At least I didn't have to resort to leaching off another being's power."
There wasn't any indication that the words even came from his mouth. They just happened to drift along the air, reaching her ear as he continued his examination of the rock, now really just doing nothing save to keep his hands busy while his mind attempted to draw meaning out of the rock.
Of course, he really didn't have much interest in the whole thing. But maybe, if by chance he could tease some meaning out of it .. it wouldn't be a bad thing either.

"I don't leach." she stated calmly. "He does though." her shoulder rolled in the direction of the thing behind her...if it were there. It was hard to tell.
Her head tilted to the side slightly, "What are you doing?" she asked, her voice sounding interested. "I've seen pictures of this thing...but it feels funny." Her gaze fell to her feet as she used the toe of one boot to nudge at the ground. "The lines are pretty easy to find...but there are a lot of them."
She seemed pretty talkative today...for some reason.

Well, since she was of no interest to him anymore, Xiao weighed the options back and forth in his head, eventually coming to the conclusion that it probably was harmless to associated with her a bit.
"They're nothing." He turned around and crossed his arms, the tiniest of smirks playing across his face.

She crossed her arms as well, tilting her chin upward as if she were looking down on him. "Are you sure?" she asked, raising a finger to point at the frosty etchings behind him. "Do you even know what those are?"
Her expression changed to one of innocence as she glanced off to the side. "I'm only asking though...just thought I would...because I noticed that you like to jump to conclusions...like when you thought I was a demon."
"I just don't want you to make a mistake like that."
"Again."

"No, and I really don't have a reason to." He looked at her as if that was fairly obvious.
"It's only natural to assume that when one is linked with the Beasts from the Other that they have immortality. My only mistake was in assuming that you had competently formed the pact and had gained some of the demons powers. Next time I'll be sure to make a thorough analysis."

[raging stomach is raging D= *pounds out post*]
The look she gave him was cautious to believe him. "Beasts from the Other?" she questioned almost immediately. With how she was needling him with questions...maybe she was trying to find something out herself. At least now she actually sounded interested.
"What do you mean formed the pact? You mean...did it right? How do you do something like that wrong, anyway?"

[rage moar kthx]
"Ask yourself."
Xiao didn't have much knowledge about her history or how she came to be like this, but he just assumed so. She was pretty inept about the whole thing, anyways.
He rolled his eyes, like it was obvious. "How am I supposed to tell you about it?"
