[OK *RAAAAAAGE*]
And so she did. Or at least tried to. She thought back as far as she could and cared to but could not recall making any sort of pact with Pidamaya. He was a part of her so suddenly and while she was still so young, the only thing she could think to do was learn how to deal with it. To cope with having another being so close to her thoughts that privacy was practically nonexistant. The only sort of consolation that she had from the whole thing was that Pidamaya was more interested in, or at least seemed to exist in a more animal state of mind. He was protective, offering security to a young girl who had long since forgotten what it had felt like to feel safe.
So she supposed in her case, it was more like possession. It wasn't her fault she was inept at dealing with something she knew totally nothing about! What conclusions she could make about it were only what she could pull from what legends and stories she knew.
"Well you seemed to act so smart about it, so I thought you would know." she muttered back under her breath. Mary looked down at her hands, "I don't know if I gained any powers though..."
An invisible shove was given to Xiao's shoulder.
"Oh wait, no, there it is." Her voice was dry as she continued. "I guess I did."

Xiao snorted again.
"Smart. Yeah."
He withdrew his hands into his sleeves, and appeared to cross his arms, the thick, silk-lined wool sliding noiselessly over itself, folding and curving into its new position. From there, he walked around her, appearing to size her up, trying to get a feel for her presence.
"..." Xiao had no knowledge of anything occult apart from how to use what he was born with, and it frustrated him greatly that some people could somehow tap energies that they did not really possess through the power of words and rituals. He wished to learn the techniques for himself, but most of his earlier training had been focused on how to control the storm that resided within him.
"Never the less, the demon obviously needs you to live. Whatever the situation is, he is appearing to use you as a host. And since he cannot completely take control over you, it's natural to assume that you will gain some sort of power due to a spillover from his occupancy." He reached up, standing almost on his toes, to touch the back of her neck, only briefly, and withdrew his arm back into his sleeve, walking back to face the stone.
Surprisingly, he left no frost burn.

The invisible mass of wings above Mary rustled loudly when Xiao touched her neck. "Would you have it, if you could?" she asked then when he returned to the stone formation.
"Is that what you meant earlier when you said you were collecting things to study?" Of course at the time he was being a little creepy/vague about it...especially when he told her she wouldn't need to worry about it since she'd be dead or something unpleasant like that...

"..." was his way of answering her question, as he turned around and sat down, back against the stone pillar, pulling his knees to his chest (as if cold and shivering).
"What I want, but don't have, I need to acquire. Is this not natural?" The question was almost put innocently, as if he was just reaffirming his human existence.

The looked down at him, her face as casual a mask as it usually was. She took a few moments to think before replying. "To me...no. Having more does not...doesn't...make someone happy." It wasn't a straight answer and sounded a little odd coming from her, as if she didn't actually know what to say at all.
She reached up to brush some hair from her face. "What I mean is...that...more doesn't usually equal better."
"In the end, it might be more than you bargained for. Especially if you haven't really given thought to what you need." Her tone got a little forward then. "Just like when we first met. You thought you needed what I had, but now you're not interested in it anymore. And you only just decided that after you found out it wouldn't be as easy as you thought?"
"After you got knocked around for it."

Xiao rolled his eyes in an exaggerated gesture.
"Statistical noise." Although it irritated him somewhat, he wasn't about to let it get to him. "My pride would truly go out the window, the day a stained person like you is able to anger me."
He stood up, shaking his arms to restore some lost blood flow. "It's obvious that the first time you do things, you make mistakes. As I said, I probably overestimated the extent of your gained abilities. Next time I'll be more careful." He smiled, in an almost teasing manner. "Drawing from this experience, of course."
Oh, but he so wanted to hit her in her pretty face. Just once. But his fists weren't balled up with rage. Not yet.

She waited until he was finished speaking until she replied in the same calm tone she seemed to be stuck on.
"The men who always want more are the ones who end up with nothing in the end."
It was unclear whether or not if she knew what negative effects her words were having on him. If they could even be called negative. Probably just enfuriating. Maybe she was daring him to get angry. Maybe she wanted to hit him in his own pretty little face.
She raised a hand then, giving one single dismissive wave as if brushing away a fly. "I guess we'll have to wait until next time then."

Xiao shivered, starting from his toes, running up his legs, splitting at his shoulders to run down to his fists, and finally ending with a slight tremor that was enough for him to close his eyes and ride it out.
His eyes still closed, a few faint wisps of frost drifted out his nose, and he reopened them, seemingly calmed (if he was ever angry), and very serene.
"Sounds fine." His tone was amiable, almost agreeable.

"Great. I'll make sure I keep my calendar open." she paused, a faint smile tracing her lips. "Just for you." Her expression didn't show whether or not she had seen the little tremor but if she had, she only seemed amused.
She reached up then to rub the back of her head, her gaze falling to the ground in an almost embarassed gesture. "Now I feel like I'm copying you...being interested in your outcome..."

Xiao blinked, and quirked an eyebrow, curiosity raised.
"Oh? And, pray tell, why would that be the case?"
He tilted his weight onto one leg, and cross his arms, the coy smile passing his face really not befitting his age and posture.

Her calm facade seemed to falter for a brief moment before she tilted her head, averting her gaze slightly, one shoulder rolling in a casual gesture. "I...don't know." she answered truthfully. Maybe.
"You're...interesting. And so is what you do." Which really was true, she supposed. Perhaps if she stuck around him long enough, she could find out what she couldn't have on her own. And possibly even find a way out of her own predicament, or at least maybe find someone with the same problem.

He splayed a hand over his chest, eyes widening. "Really?"
The hand dropped to his side, and his expression vanished.
No, this wasn't what was supposed to be happening. He had something to do. Something to accomplish. And this wasn't supposed to be part of it. No distractions. No side tracking. No tangents.
He stared at her coldly, perhaps a bit more harshly than he intended. "Regardless, this pointless banter becomes tedious. I have things to do, and I'm assuming that you do as well."

In all her 'wisdom', Mary didn't know whether or not he said that in sarcasm, causing her to hesitate once more.
"Yeah...really." she said a little blandly, as if agreeing to his pointless banter comment.
Mary's right hand wandered to the back of her head where she toyed with the hair at the nape of her neck, looking down at the ground as if thinking hard.
"No." was her suddenly reply. "I don't have anything to do. Not...really." Of course there was her ongoing "quest" of sorts. It was probably her way of hinting at something, probably extending her hope farther than she ought to. He did just try to kill her afterall. Or eat her brains or whatever it was he was planning on doing to get his learnin' in.
She raised her right hand in front of her then, merely holding it still in the air like a frozen farewell. Her brows were raised slightly as she spoke. "But, well, if you have things to do, you better go do them..."

A small spurt of breath escaped Xiao, a thin, laminar blast of frost that escaped the front of his mouth, as if he was spitting. He barely squashed down the smirk as it threatened to creep up the corner of his lips, damping it down with icy waves of conditioning as it automatically kicked in and cleaned up.
"I suggest you find something to occupy yourself, no matter how inane. It helps the .. immortal" and here he almost looked jealous, envious, vengeful, homicidal, "stay occupied."
He spun around, releasing a thick cloud of microscopic ice crystals that floated up, borne by the wind currents. As the cloud dissipated, it was clear that he was gone.
The feeling left in the air, however, was that he would somehow, probably, bump into her again. It didn't really need to be said. That's just how it was.

"I-immortal?" she muttered after he had already gone, her eyes blinking rapidly a few times. Since when was she immortal? Or did he mean himself? She shut her eyes for a second. Oh well. It wouldn't do any good to think about it. Mary had a feeling that her bond with this alternate spirit kept aging at bay, but she wasn't about to do anything stupid and try to see if she were immortal or not. She still felt pain, afterall.
The girl hesitated only a few moments until the cloud had fully dissipated until she turned on her heel to leave, the invisible wings above her fluttering softly in her wake.
"See you." she said softly to herself as she finally departed.
